  Fall 2003
  Harvest Report

"For the most part the weather has treated us well this year," said Teri Reed, owner of Dante’s Vineyard. "We've had a long, cool cultivating season for finer flavor maturity, with only a few spells of heat and storms of rain."
"This harvest season we have experienced some days with the temperature in the 80s and nights in the 50s, which is the perfect temperatures for grape growing," said Dana Garrett, Dante’s Vineyard’s Harvesting Manager. "However every September we must be ready for the unavoidable heat wave.  The only thing we can do is have the proper timing and duration with harvesting. We take preventive steps to avoid sun burning and dehydration.  The grapes must be pampered, which keeps us on our toes."
So far, we have 15% completed with harvesting. We've harvested 35% of the white varieties of grapes and only 0.75% of the reds. Sixty percent of the Sauvignon Blanc, the first of the grapes to mature, has already been crushed.
