Evaluations

You and classmates will make or break the success of this course. It is important to understand that you control your learning (re-read the course policies). You are the driving force for acquiring the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities from this course to transfer to your professional setting within the next few years. What will you gain from participating in this course? Maybe you are in the best position to decide what you have gained and how important this gain will be in future years. Therefore, you must take an active role in evaluating your individual course performance, products, efforts in producing your learning, and how this learning will benefit you in the future.

This evaluation will occur through a formative approach (ongoing throughout the semester) and a summative approach (end of the semester reflection). Since you will become skilled in performing this self-evaluation of your learning, you will be qualified to evaluate those same factors for your peers in this course. At two distinct periods you will conduct a self- and peer evaluation of the knowledge, skills, and abilities gained from participating in Electronic Media in Agricultural Communications.

To complete this task, before the midterm break and at final exam period, you will submit:

  • A midterm exam (50 pts), an opportunity for reflection. Items to describe (single-spaced) are:
    • One-half page description of the specific knowledge, skills, and abilities gained in the course.
    • One-half page description of related concepts or skills you want to learn in the future.
    • Your thoughts on the electronic communication process and/or profession.
    • The approximate number of hours you (and/or your team) logged outside of class to complete the projects, also, the number of times your team met to work on the projects each week.
    • The approximate number of times you (and/or your team) visited the course Web information to learn more about this course and its various topics.
    • One-half page description of how you could transfer your skills to a professional setting.
  • Your final exam (50 pts) will contain the same elements as the midterm, but only for the last one-half of the semester.
    • Include a reflective paper (about one page) about how the overall course may be useful to future students, how it could be improved, and other suggestions.
    • During the final exam period, each team member will evaluate the individual course performance, products, and efforts in producing learning for him/her and his/her team members using the scales below.
  • Your exams may be prepared in advance of the actual exam times stated in this syllabus.

Your products for this project will be a Midterm Evaluation (50 pts, Due on 10-5-04) and a Final Evaluation (50 pts, Due before 12-15-04).
